Mfaniseni Mnguni is a seasoned higher education housing practitioner and student experience strategist with a strong track record in residence operations, facilities oversight, student life programming, and organisational development. He currently serves as the Head: Operations and Facilities for the ACUHO-I Southern Africa Chapter (ACUHO-I SAC), where he provides strategic leadership and sector guidance aimed at elevating accommodation standards, professional practice, and living-learning ecosystems across institutions in the region.

Over the course of his career, Mfaniseni has held key roles in the student housing and student affairs portfolios at leading universities, including the University of Venda and Durban University of Technology. His responsibilities have included the management of large residence portfolios, oversight of leased and on-campus accommodation, ITS system-based student allocations, health and safety compliance, student leadership development, and the design of inclusive co-curricular programmes that support academic success, personal wellbeing, and community belonging.

His approach to student housing is deeply rooted in the belief that residences are not simply places to stay, they are transformative developmental environments where student identity, leadership, resilience, and social awareness are shaped. Mfaniseni has led initiatives that strengthen student engagement, promote social cohesion, enhance campus culture, and encourage a vibrant living and learning experience. He also possesses qualifications in Information Technology, Strategic Leadership, Project Management, and Customer Service, equipping him with a unique blend of technical, managerial, and people-focused competencies essential in the modern student housing landscape.

As a professional committed to advancing the student accommodation sector, he actively contributes to the development of training frameworks, operational standards, and capacity-building platforms for residence staff and emerging practitioners. His work through ACUHO-I SAC supports universities in building safe, sustainable, student-centered housing environments that align with national standards and global best practice.
